MyDisplay
1.2.3MyDisplay is a menu bar app that takes control of every display on your Mac: lid, HiDPI, brightness, colour, virtual screens. Free, no account, no cloud.
MyDisplay started with a MacBook whose lid sensor died: macOS no longer knew the laptop was shut, and the screen lit up in the bag. The app reads the hinge angle itself and does exactly what macOS should do.
It adds what macOS lacks for external monitors: sharp HiDPI, DDC or software brightness, colour controls, virtual screens and shortcuts.
Features
Closed means closed
Closed with a monitor: the built-in display turns off. Closed alone: the screen stays black despite the trackpad or a Bluetooth mouse, then the Mac sleeps.
Sharp on any monitor
Retina mode on 2K, 4K and ultrawide monitors through a virtual screen, plus every hidden resolution and refresh rate.
DDC and software
Brightness, contrast and volume over DDC; software dimming down to black otherwise. The Mac’s brightness keys drive the display under the pointer.
Per display
Temperature, gamma, contrast and RGB channels for every monitor.
1080p to 4K
For a headless Mac, screen sharing or extra workspace, in HiDPI.
Shortcuts and command line
Disconnect a display without pulling the cable, pick the main display, mirroring, global shortcuts, the mydisplay:// scheme and the mydisplay command.

Questions and answers
Which Macs?
Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or later), macOS 14 or later.
What leaves my Mac?
Nothing, unless you add a TV: then MyDisplay talks only to that TV, on your local network. No auto-update, no statistics.
Why no DDC on my monitor?
Turn on DDC/CI in the monitor’s menu. Some adapters and docks block DDC; software dimming takes over then.
Which languages?
French, Dutch, German, English, Russian and Spanish, following the Mac’s language or chosen in the app.
How do I check the downloaded file?
In Terminal, run the command below and compare the result with the SHA-256 fingerprint on the right. If a single character differs, do not open the file and write to us.
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/MyDisplay-1.2.3-arm64.dmg
